Working Floors in a Working Town
Oro Grande has made things for a long time. Limestone quarries opened here in 1887, and cement production started in 1907, according to Wikipedia. Fewer than 1,000 people live in the unincorporated town today, on the line between Victorville and Adelanto. Epoxy flooring in Oro Grande tends to go on floors that do real work: shops, equipment bays, small commercial buildings and garages that double as workspaces.
Older slabs need honest prep
Oro Grande was settled early for the Mojave River. Aaron G. Lane set up a ranch and store at the river crossing in 1859, and the town took its name from the Oro Grande Mine after 1880 strikes at Red Mountain. A town with that much history has buildings and slabs of many ages. Older concrete can be uneven, patched, oil-soaked or painted several times over.
Before we quote, we check for:
- Old paint or coatings that are loose or flaking
- Oil and fluid stains soaked deep into the surface
- Spalled or crumbling areas, especially at doorways
- Cracks that have shifted height across the joint
All coatings and loose material are ground off. Deep stains are degreased. Cracks are filled and ground flush. If a section is too far gone for a coating to help, we tell you before you spend money on it.
Shop and commercial systems
For shops, equipment storage and service bays, we use a thicker 100% solids epoxy. It stands up to rolling jacks, carts, dropped tools and fluid spills better than a thin garage coating. We can add a broadcast aggregate for grip in wet areas and mark walkways or work zones with a contrasting color. For small businesses along the old highway, a sealed floor is easier to sweep and keeps dust down for customers.
Route 66 frontage
Oro Grande sits on old Route 66 near Interstate 15, and travelers still drive the old road between Victorville and Barstow. A few businesses and buildings face that traffic. For a storefront, garage bay or display room, a clean coated floor makes a better first impression than stained concrete, and it is quicker to mop at the end of the day.
Heat swings on the valley floor
Wikipedia's climate table for Oro Grande shows July highs averaging 98 degrees and January lows averaging 30, with about 5.6 inches of rain a year and essentially none in June. A slab that swings through that range every year moves. Thin, poorly bonded coatings crack and lift first. A properly ground slab and a full-thickness system handle it far better. In summer we work early in the day. In winter we wait for the slab to warm.
Keeping a shop floor in shape
A coated shop floor lasts longer with simple habits. Sweep grit out often, since sand ground under carts wears a topcoat faster than anything else. Wipe up fuel, solvent and brake fluid when they spill instead of letting them sit. Use pads under jack stands and heavy steel feet. If a forklift or loaded cart runs the same path every day, ask us about a thicker build or an extra topcoat in that lane. A worn lane can be recoated later without redoing the whole floor, as long as the base is still bonded.

Oro Grande Background for Floor Owners
- An industrial past. Limestone quarries opened in 1887 with two kilns producing lime, cement production began in 1907, and marble was also mined in the area.
- First river settlement. Aaron G. Lane started a ranch and store at the Mojave River crossing in 1859, known as Lane's Crossing, the first settlement on the river.
- Hot summers, cold nights. Average July highs reach 98 degrees and average January lows drop to 30, with about 5.6 inches of rain a year in a semi-arid climate.
- Small and unincorporated. Fewer than 1,000 people live in unincorporated Oro Grande, on the Victorville and Adelanto boundary along old Route 66.

Oro Grande Questions
Can you coat an old shop floor with years of oil in it?
Usually. We grind the surface, degrease the stains and test that the concrete is clean enough to bond. Heavily soaked spots may need extra treatment. We tell you up front if any area is a risk.
How fast can a commercial floor be back in use?
It depends on the system. Polyaspartic topcoats cure quickly and can shorten downtime. Thicker epoxy systems take longer but give more build for heavy use. We give you a written schedule before work starts.
Do you work on small business floors as well as homes?
Yes. We coat garages, shops, storefronts and small commercial spaces in Oro Grande and along the Route 66 corridor.
