Higher Ground Means a Different Floor Plan
Hesperia climbs from about 3,200 feet on its north side to about 4,000 feet in the south, and that climb changes how we approach epoxy flooring in Hesperia. Wikipedia lists average snowfall here at 4.4 inches a year, about three times Victorville's 1.4 inches. December and January lows average around freezing. A garage near the southern edge of the city can see snow on the driveway and slush on the tires a few times a winter.
Cold slabs and short winter windows
Most epoxies need the slab and the air to stay warm while they cure. On a Hesperia winter morning, a garage slab can start well below that. We measure the slab with a surface thermometer before we mix. If it is too cold, we wait for the day to warm it, or we use a polyaspartic system that can go down in cooler conditions. Winter installs here often run on a shorter daily schedule, with the work done in the middle of the day.
Snowmelt and grip
When snow does fall, it comes in on tires and melts on the garage floor. A smooth glossy coating can get slick when wet. For Hesperia garages we lean toward full flake floors, which have built-in texture, or we add a fine anti-slip grit to the topcoat. Entry steps and the area just inside the garage door get the most attention, since that is where wet shoes land first.
A city built in bursts
Hesperia's growth came in waves. Railroad developers laid out the town site in 1891 and promoted it as "the Omaha of the West," but only about 1,000 people moved in. In the early 1950s, M. Penn Phillips and boxer Jack Dempsey financed roads and subdivisions and sold lots on television. The census shows the biggest jump later: 13,540 people in 1980 and 50,418 in 1990.
That history gives Hesperia an unusual mix of floors. Many homes date from the late 1980s boom, so their slabs are now 35 years old or more. Others were built one at a time on lots sold decades earlier. Older floors often have oil soaked deep into the surface, worn tire paths and cracks that have opened over the years. We degrease and grind those floors, and we tell you at the estimate if a stain is likely to show through a light color.
The aqueduct and the river
The California Aqueduct runs through the middle of Hesperia from north to south, and the Mojave River flows along its east side. The city covers about 72.8 square miles, almost all of it land. That spread means jobs here range from compact tract garages to larger lots with detached shops and RV garages. We coat both, and we size the system to how the floor is used.
Older tracts and long-term owners
We often meet Hesperia owners who bought during the 1980s or 1990s and are now updating the garage for the first time. Those floors usually need the most prep, but they also give the best before-and-after.
What we put down in Hesperia
- Full flake garage floors with a textured finish for wet winter days
- Polyaspartic floor coating for cooler months and shorter install windows
- Heavy-build epoxy for RV garages and detached shops
- Patio coatings for backyard slabs
- Commercial floors for local shops and service businesses
The 2020 census counted 30,344 housing units in Hesperia, and 65.4% of occupied homes were owner-occupied. Many of our Hesperia customers have lived in the same house for years and want a floor that will last as long as they stay.
Hesperia Conditions We Plan For
- More snow than the valley floor. Hesperia averages about 4.4 inches of snow a year, with December and January lows around freezing, and its elevation rises from about 3,200 feet in the north to about 4,000 feet in the south.
- A late-1980s boom. The census counted 13,540 residents in 1980 and 50,418 in 1990, so a large share of the city's garage slabs are now more than 35 years old.
- Split by the aqueduct. The California Aqueduct divides the city north to south, and the Mojave River runs along its east side, across about 72.8 square miles.
- Mostly owner-occupied. In 2020, 65.4% of Hesperia's occupied housing units were owner-occupied, out of 30,344 total units.

Hesperia Questions
Can you install a garage floor in Hesperia in winter?
Often, yes. We check the slab temperature first. If it is too cold for epoxy, we wait for a warmer day or use a polyaspartic system rated for lower temperatures. Some winter jobs run on shorter days to stay in the right range.
Will a coated floor be slippery when snow melts on it?
A plain gloss finish can be slick when wet. We use flake floors or add anti-slip grit to the topcoat in Hesperia garages, especially near the door and entry steps.
Can you coat a detached RV garage?
Yes. RV and large shop floors get a thicker epoxy build to handle heavy tires, leveling jacks and fluid drips. We look at the slab first, since bigger floors often have more cracks to repair.
