A Different Climate From the Valley Floor

Epoxy flooring in Crestline faces a very different climate from the one we work in down in Victorville. Crestline sits at about 4,613 feet in the San Bernardino National Forest, with Lake Gregory at the center of town. Wikipedia lists about 37.5 inches of precipitation a year, most of it from January through March, and almost none from June through August. That is more than seven times what Barstow gets. Water, not heat, is the main thing we plan around here.

Moisture is the first test

A slab that sits on wet ground through the winter can push water vapor up through the concrete. Coatings trap that vapor. If there is too much, it builds pressure under the film and causes bubbles or a peel that starts at the edges. Many Crestline garages are built into slopes, and water that runs downhill toward a garage wall can keep one side of a slab damp long after a storm.

Before we quote a mountain floor we:

  • Look for damp edges, white mineral deposits and old coatings that are already lifting.
  • Test the slab for moisture instead of guessing.
  • Recommend a moisture-tolerant primer when the readings call for one.
  • Tell you plainly when drainage needs fixing before any coating goes down.

Pick the dry season when you can

Crestline's pattern makes scheduling simple. Summer is dry, and that is when a slab is at its driest too. Late spring through early fall is our preferred window for mountain garages. Winter work is possible in a heated, dry garage, but cold, damp concrete slows cure and raises the risk of a weak bond. If you call us in February, we may suggest booking a summer date.

Homes that sit empty part of the year

The 2020 census counted 7,306 housing units in Crestline, and 2,344 of them, about 32%, were not occupied on census day. Some are cabins used on weekends and holidays. A garage that stays closed for weeks can trap humidity and grow a musty smell, and bare concrete holds onto it. A sealed floor helps a closed-up garage or storage room stay cleaner and easier to air out. It is also easier to sweep out pine needles and grit after a few weeks away.

Systems we suggest for Crestline

  • Garage floor epoxy over a moisture-checked, ground slab
  • Epoxy flake floors for texture and grip on wet boots and snowmelt
  • Polyaspartic floor coating for owners who visit on weekends and want a fast return to service
  • Commercial floor epoxy for workshops, storage buildings and small business spaces in town

For outdoor decks and patios on a hillside, we look closely at drainage and slope before recommending any coating.

Slopes, steps and odd-shaped slabs

Mountain garages are rarely simple rectangles. Some have a step down from the house, a slab that pitches toward the door, or a storage room carved into the hillside. Those details change the work. Edges and steps take hand tools, and pitched slabs need the coating spread so it does not pool at the low side. We measure each section and price it as it is, so there are no surprises on install day.

What to expect

We drive up, measure the floor and check moisture before we write a price. The quote lists the prep, each coat and the total. Most garages take one to two days. Call (760) 463-0450 to set up a visit.

Mountain Facts That Shape a Crestline Floor

  • Wet winters, dry summers. Crestline averages about 37.5 inches of precipitation a year, with the wettest months January through March and almost no rain from June through August.
  • Higher up. The community sits at about 4,613 feet inside the San Bernardino National Forest, with an annual mean low of 40°F.

Crestline Questions

Can a garage floor be coated if it gets damp in winter?

Often, yes, once we know how much moisture is coming through. We test the slab, and if readings are high we use a moisture-tolerant primer. If water is running into the garage from outside, that needs to be fixed first, or any coating will fail.

I only use my Crestline cabin on weekends. Can the job fit that?

Yes. Polyaspartic systems cure quickly, and many garages can be done over a short window. We give you a schedule up front so you know when to arrive and when the floor is ready.
